Creating a great Quinceanera Experience

Where does it start?

So before your quinceanera party where you will have themes, favors and all of your great friends together to celebrate. You must first get through your quinceanera photoshoot, and get the pictures that will wow your family and friends. Quinceanera photography is an art where you must capture the best of her, while making her feel and look like a million dollars.

Experience comes first

The whole process starts with the experience. Making her feel comfortable, as she has this complete stranger take pictures of her.

Give her some space
As the photographer, first start with long lenses. This can be your 85mm and above, this gives your client time to warm up to you, and get used to being photographed. Music, your best friend
Rather than constantly talking to client and keeping her engaged. Music is best. You focus on the creative process of posing and composition, she can listen to the music playlist you are playing from your bluetooth speaker. Win, win. Hungry?
Always bring snacks and water for your client and her crew (mom, dad & other). These can be as simple as granola bars and water bottles. These go a long way as most of the shoots are 3-4 hours long, which can be extraneous for someone that is not a professional model. Plus it keeps the mood up

Tell me what to do

Give some feedback
As you capture these amazing quinceanera pictures, you must give her feedback. She cannot see what you have captured, so give her some small hints like “that was great!”, “beautiful”. These small comments give her some idea that she is doing a good job. Simple posing
Keep the posing simple and easy for her to do. It’s always good to bring some quinceanera picture ideas, as they help her see the vision. Simple clean poses are timeless while out of the ordinary can get old next year and photo will loose its shine.

Show me the money

It is a good idea towards the end of the shoot to show her some sample shots. This will get her excited about the shoot and build gratitude.
